Verses

An oath made before thunder is not stronger than an oath made in a kitchen. The witness is the same: the one who must live after speaking.

Do not swear by Jove to make a lie impressive.

A judge who enjoys punishment must recuse himself from calling it justice.

Mercy without memory invites the wolf back into the fold; justice without mercy eventually forgets why there was a fold.

Let the rich man's testimony weigh exactly as much as the poor man's, which is to say: according to truth and not furniture.

If a law cannot survive being applied to its author, it was never law; it was a weapon with stationery.

Hospitality binds host and guest alike. The guest shall not steal the cup; the host shall not poison it.

Promises made in fear remain promises only where freedom returns and ratifies them.

The eagle may appear on the seal. It shall not appear in the reasoning.

Call righteousness Tzedek if you wish. The difficult part remains doing it when no planet is visible.

The final appeal is not to heaven but to the fact that another person must bear what you decide.
