Liber Iovis - Chapter 68

Verses

Do not worship Jupiter because it is large. Largeness belongs to measurement, and measurement belongs to mind.

Do not despise Jupiter because men made a father of it. The planet did not write the family law.

Guru means heavy. Let the teaching be heavy enough to crush the throne you built for the teacher.

A true father does not demand that the child remain a child so fatherhood may continue.

A true teacher commits a kind of disappearance.

First he says, Look at the star. Then, Look at the looking. Then he leaves you without either instruction.

You ask whether Brahman is greater than Jupiter. Greater is still a comparison. The question has smuggled two things into what is not-two.

Do not seek liberation as an enlargement of the person. A larger cage remains architectural success for the jailer.

Prosperity may come. Let it come. Poverty may come. Let it come. You are not the customs officer of appearances.

The cat crosses the shrine and knocks over the offering bowl. Nothing real is damaged.

If there is a blessing, it is not that your life becomes enormous. It is that the one demanding an enormous life becomes transparent.

The student said, Then Jupiter is nothing. The teacher replied, You are still trying to win.

See the giant, enjoy the giant, measure the giant, write poems to the giant. Only do not mistake wonder for servitude.
