Liber Lunae - Chapter 10

Verses

Verse 9

The Moon appears in a hundred bowls of water, yet no Moon has entered the bowls.

Verse 10

Break the bowl and the reflection dies; look upward and nothing has happened.

Verse 11

You mourn the reflected self because you have mistaken the vessel for the sky.

Verse 12

The waxing mind says, I increase. The waning mind says, I perish. The witness measures neither claim.

Verse 13

Chandra crosses the houses of the heavens; awareness crosses nowhere.

Verse 14

The dreamer sees silver roads. The awakened one sees that even the road was appearing in himself.

Verse 15

Do not ask whether the Moon is full. Ask what in you knows fullness and absence alike.

Verse 16

The cat watches the moving reflection on the floor and leaps. The sage watches the cat and smiles at philosophy becoming honest.

Verse 17

When thought becomes still, the mind is not destroyed. It becomes a clean lake, and borrowed light is seen as borrowed.

Verse 18

Soma is nectar only to the one still thirsty. To the Self, immortality is not an achievement.

Verse 19

The crescent says, I am incomplete. The full Moon says, I am complete. Both statements belong to shape, not to Being.

Verse 20

You seek liberation beyond the last sphere. Find first the one who believes he is inside any sphere.

Verse 21

That which sees the Moon cannot be seen as an object. Remain there.
