Liber Lunae - Chapter 14

Verses

Verse 83

Do not call her pure. She is a professional thief with excellent lighting.

Verse 84

The Sun commits the vulgar crime of being obvious. The Moon launders stolen radiance through romance.

Verse 85

I spat at the crescent. It returned next week with more surface area. Arrogance is easier when your opponent has phases.

Verse 86

Every lover has blamed the Moon for feelings manufactured by glands, loneliness, and poor judgment.

Verse 87

They say the full Moon reveals beasts. Nonsense. It merely improves visibility.

Verse 88

If Luna governs madness, she has been badly understaffed for several thousand years.

Verse 89

I asked the silver queen for a sign. A bird defecated on my coat. At last, a religion with measurable results.

Verse 90

The priest said the far side concealed mysteries. We sent machines. The mystery was additional rocks. I laughed for three nights.

Verse 91

Still, I hate her most when she is beautiful. Ugly enemies are merciful.

Verse 92

May every false prophet be forced to preach under moonlight, where even their shadows know the sermon is borrowed.

Verse 93

And if she is only stone, then stone has done what gods could not: made fools kneel without issuing a single command.
