Verse 38
I will not bow to the pale planet, though I honor what it reveals.
I will not bow to the pale planet, though I honor what it reveals.
It reveals that the known boundary belonged to knowing, not to reality.
It reveals that orientation belongs to bodies, not to awareness.
It reveals that strangeness requires comparison and comparison requires memory.
It reveals nothing about Brahman, because Brahman is not an astronomical object.
Do not make liberation depend on discovering one more world.
If a thousand planets were found beyond Uranus, the witness of their discovery would not become the thousand-and-first.
The eye sees the telescope; the mind understands the planet; awareness knows the mind.
Find the last instrument and you will find another object.
The seeker wishes to escape the cosmos. Ask whether awareness is located inside the cosmos to begin with.
The answer is not a belief. Look.
When the looking becomes simple, even the word enlightenment feels overdecorated.
Let Uranus remain cold, blue, distant, and entirely innocent of your salvation.
